Tins, a short children’s novel by Alex Shearer, was an engaging and intellectually challenging text with which my new Year 7 class started their secondary school careers. It provided plenty of opportunities for my pupils to explore different genres, start to analyse texts, and experiment with some creative homework assignments. It fired their enthusiasm for English from the start.
